UIC Finance Platform Plenary Session took place

On 5 June 2025, the annual UIC Finance Platform Plenary session was held both in person at UIC HQ and online, moderated by UIC Chief Financial Officer Chakib Metennani.

In his welcome speech, Stefano Pierini, Chair of the Finance Platform, highlighted the strong support for the development of a carbon carbon-financed rail market.

UIC Director General François Davenne then presented the UIC strategy for 2026-2028.

During the meeting, the moderators of the Finance Platform working groups presented their work for the 2024-2025 period and outlines the following year’s work programme. The presentations included:

  • RCF 1 - Passenger accounting group, presented by David Hiscock
  • RMF; RCF 2 - Freight accounting group, presented by Heribert Sebald, ÖBB
  • RCF 3 – Group on the rules governing financial relations between companies, presented by Markus Sahli, SBB
  • Taxation group, presented by Rauch Herwig, ÖBB
  • Debt group, presented by Dénes Kovac, MAV
  • Statistics group, presented by Roman Štěrba, Správa železnic
  • PATRIC group, presented by Pierre Wattier, SNCF

Guest speakers included Johann Wodaczek from Rail Cargo Austria, who presented on the redesign of the company’s invoicing and billing system; David Sarfatti from the UIC Passenger Department, who shared updates on the activities of the Multimodality Working Group (MWG); and Lucie Anderton, who provided an update on UIC’s sustainable finance and carbon-related initiatives.
